Campus Updates Following Hurricane Helene
Updates for October 4, 2024 at 2:35 PM
What a difference a week makes! We have seen the spirit of Converse’s core values shine as we’ve worked together to restore our campus and community. We have been the recipient of much generosity during the past week, including gifts of kindness and grace, time and strength (campus cleanup), physical supplies for our students, and Helene relief donations to support Converse’s legacy as we continue to move forward.
While many in our area, state and region are still recovering, Converse is on the mend, and this means we have shifted our focus to helping others. Big or small, these efforts bless us just as much as those we serve.
Whether by providing ice to a nearby college and businesses, hosting community members in need of WIFI or charging stations, opening our dining and laundry facilities to our full Converse community, or even hosting a wedding on campus – yes we are! – Converse has felt the true power of community this week.
When an alumna called to share that her wedding venue in North Carolina was tragically destroyed, we moved quickly to prepare the Rainey Amphitheater (thank you, Roebuck and campus volunteers!) so that she and her fiancé could continue with their wedding day. What better way to celebrate new beginnings?
We look forward to continuing to serve others as we return to campus on Monday, October 7. Please let us know if you see a way Converse can help other organizations or community groups.

Updates for October 3, 2024, at 3 PM
We’re excited to share that power to the entire Converse campus has been restored! In addition, power and internet have been restored to our offices at the University Center of Greenville, so we will be fully open and ready to go on Monday, October 7, in both locations. We hosted another grounds cleanup from 1-3 today, and we thank the faculty, staff and leaders who joined together to help restore our beautiful campus.
Our student-athletes will return to campus on Sunday and will follow our return-to-sports protocol, which includes several days of reconditioning to ensure they are safe, healthy, and ready to resume sports. All athletic events have been postponed through October 9, and Athletics is communicating directly with student-athletes and working to reschedule games and make other scheduling adjustments as needed.
The support, encouragement and actions of our Converse community during the past week have been truly appreciated, and we are thankful to be able to shift our focus to supporting others at this time. We have had a few members of our Converse community reach out for assistance, and we are still able to help. Students, staff and faculty, see yesterday’s post for ways we can offer support (all requests will be kept confidential), and please reach out to us if you see other opportunities for us to offer assistance.
